The Federal Election Commission has asked Rep. Michele Bachmann for more information about her campaign finance reports, according to a story in Roll Call.
The Minnesota Republican, who is thinking about running for president in 2012, won the most expensive U.S. House race in the 2010 elections. A Tea Party favorite, Bachmann raised more than $13.5 million and won her third term to the U.S. House.
The Roll Call story, quoting an FEC letter, notes that Bachmann failed to itemize about $1.5 million in individual contributions. (The law requires details for any donation more than $200.) She also may have failed to report "last-minute" contributions.
Andy Parrish, with Bachmann's campaign, said it is not uncommon for the FEC to ask for more information.
"The campaign had more than 100,000 donors, demonstrating a broad base of support, but also requiring a large record-keeping operation," he said. "The campaign will continue to ensure that it acts in full compliance with FEC rules."
Bachmann's deadline to respond is Thursday.
